Village Bure
Namosi was one of the first schools
to have REACT installed as part of the Ministry of Education's IDL
project.
Namosi is a village community
located half a day's drive from Suva with a small school for
secondary students living in the village and nearby.
The drive to Namosi is through
beautiful mountanous, river crossed countryside with cascading
waterfalls and sheer vertical cliff drops around every
corner! The narrow, stony 4x4 road also serves as the road
traversed by trucks bringing supplies to the area and is
treacherous even in good weather!
The infrastructure in the village
is limited with satellite being the only communications
network. Solar power provides the power to run the
communications with the village only having generator powered
electricity for 2 hours each morning and evening.
Despite this, school is 'in' 5 days
a week with IDL lessons scheduled for the time when the
generator is running. As with the other schools in this
project, students now have much greater access to education and
teaching resources through the IDL studio in Nasinu.
REACT not only provides a rich and
engaging educational platform but provides an opportunity for the
village to be connected to other services in Suva such as
health and government offices.
